Request for Comments on Proposed Revisions to Cyanide Code Program Documents

The International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) has completed an internal review of Cyanide Code program documents and is proposing revisions to ten of these documents based on its review. One new document, Guidance for Use of the Cyanide Production Verification Protocol has also been drafted.  At this time ICMI is inviting interested stakeholders and members of the public to comment on these draft revised program documents.

The Cyanide Code program is supported by a library of twenty-three documents that provide information, instruction, and details on program requirements to participating companies and auditors.  These documents also provide guidance and instructions to participating operations in preparing for certification and to auditors assessing compliance.

ICMI has undertaken a process to review its library of the Cyanide Code’s supporting documents. In this process, documents have been revised to account for changes in industry practices since initial development of the Cyanide Code, and to account for ICMI’s experience with Code implementation, compliance issues, and evaluating audit reports over the past 14 years.  Documents have also been revised for clarity and for consistency both within and between documents.  Information that was previously included in multiple documents has been consolidated, where possible, into a single document, resulting in elimination of some documents. One new document, Guidance for Use of the Cyanide Production Verification Protocol has also been drafted.

As part of this review process, the ICMI is inviting comments from interested stakeholders on the draft revised Cyanide Code program documents listed and available for downloading through the hyperlinks below.  The first document listed below “Request for Comments on Draft Revised Cyanide Code Program Documents” provides a summary of notable changes to the documents.  Stakeholders are encouraged to identify those documents most relevant to their own operations and interests, examine those documents and provide ICMI with feedback.

The ICMI requests that interested stakeholders submit comments on these draft revised documents to [email protected], no later than November 27, 2020.  ICMI will consider comments and make revisions as appropriate.  After consideration of any comments made during the comment period, ICMI will seek approval of the documents by ICMI’s Board of Directors.  If approved, documents will be finalized, translated, and posted as final on the ICMI website.
